Herbert L. Foss was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for extraordinary valor in the face of the heavy fire of the enemy during the Spanish American War.  He demonstrated exemplary coolness and bravery in his actions, he is a true hero.

In his honor the ferry terminal serving the Boston Harbor is named for him.  This sculptured portrait  bust is erected there.
