The sculpture was commissioned for Cal Ripken, Jr.’s hometown of Aberdeen, Maryland, and erected at the Ironbird’s Minor League Stadium located there.  “The Iron Man” statue celebrates Cal Ripken, Jr.’s record for consecutive games played.  Ripken, the iconic Baltimore Oriole major league ball player broke the fabled record held by Lou Gehrig  with 2131 games played.

The statue depicts Ripken saluting the cheering crowd of fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on the night of his monumental achievement.
